FAO Impact Report
Design & Art Direction: Jessica Solomon
While redesigning the Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Wastage Footprint report, I was struck by how sterile and unapproachable the original presentation felt. The subject matter, global food waste and its environmental impact, is vital and affects everyone, yet the design seemed geared only toward policy insiders.
My goal was to reimagine the report for a broader audience without compromising its credibility. I maintained the serious tone of the original but introduced a friendlier and more contemporary visual language. I opened up the layouts by adding more breathing room around the text, introduced creative infographics to simplify complex data, and used a warm, natural color palette to invite readers in. Bold typography creates rhythm and emphasis, helping guide the reader through key points while keeping the experience visually engaging.
The result is a publication that feels both authoritative and accessible, a report people want to read.
